In Her Bed The Dragons of Challon Book 2 Deborah MacGillivray 9780821780374 Books

The book has an admirable and interesting plot- heroine has a handsome knight kidnapped so that she can get pregnant to protect her small, little-known kingdom that has no male heirs in place. It seems that after she releases the kidnapped knight and he returns later on to claim her kingdom in the name of King Edward, the story seems to have lagged after that and I found it difficult to continue reading. Like some of the other readers said, the book doesn't seem to be original or exciting, especially with an annoying, whinny heroine and an emotionally rigid knight in place. I may continue reading In Her Bed again one day, but for now, I'll be reading other books.

In Her Bed The Dragons of Challon Book 2 Deborah MacGillivray 9780821780374 Books Reviews

Deborah MacGillivray introduced us to Damian St. Giles in A Restless Knight. Who was that delicious man who disappeared, leaving us sorely enticed? Now we find out where he's been. In Her Bed isn't a sequel to A Restless Knight since both books take place simultaneously. Hey, and we thought Tamlyn and Julian had issues. Ha! Just imagine the blow to Damian's ego when he finds out Lady Aithinne Oglivie has used him for stud service.

Aithinne is desperate to secure the future of her holdings, and to do that, she must produce an heir. She sends her twin brothers and her protector to procure a good specimen. Damian, drugged and spelled by Oona, can't believe his good luck when he's seduced by the woman whose image he's loved for years. He thought, at first, it was the Lady Tamlyn, but even though he's a bit miffed at his treatment, he finds Aithinne even more irresistible. Lady Aithinne, on the other hand, isn't the slightest bit interested in having any man claim her or her lands. And she's not at all amused when Damian tells her that King Edward has granted her lands to him.

Let Ms. MacGillivray take you on a journey through sensuality, betrayal, and true love. In Her Bed is the second book in MacGillivray's Dragons of Challon series, but can be read as a standalone just as well. (I don't know why anyone would want to miss the first book, though.)

For a true page-turner, I highly recommend Aithinne and Damian's rocky road to true love.
Ok, Tamlyn and Aithinne and Damian and Julian are near mirror images of one another. So are In Her bed and A Restless Knight. I read these back to back and perhaps that made it worse. I thought A Restless Kinght was a great, well written story. However, I feel like I'm rereading it in this book. You could almost just read the first couple of chapters and the last 50 pages of this book and there is where you will find the subtle differences in these books, as well as in all of the characters. I would prefer to have known these characters better, especially Damian. I found there was not much more that I learned about him than I already knew from the previous book. Had I not read A Restless Knight, perhaps I would have been able to enjoy it more. There just seemed to be a great deal of potential for this story that was not achieved because of so much repetition. I'm actually more than a little confused by all the 5 star ratings on this book - especially since almost all the reviewers gave 5 stars to the previous book by this author, and, as I said, they are near copies of each other.
Really great historical perspective. Wonderful characters that continue through the other novels in this series. Buy them all and you won't regret it.
St Giles story and the bonny lass he finds. The continuing story of the Scots and English in the 1200s
Damian St. Giles is knight is service to King Edward I. Known as a Dragon of Challon, he finds himself at Glen Shane, Scotland before going to claim his ancestral lands. Damian also possesses the "kenning" in which he sees his lover, helpmate, and wife. On May Day he doesn't expect to find her and he doesn't expect to be in her bed.

A Scottish historical romance, "In Her Bed," is set 1296, when Edward Longshanks of England wants Scotland. He sends his English knights to claim Scottish fiefs and wed Scottish noblewoman to bread a nation. Damian St. Giles is once such knight, but he has his own mind. Damian possesses the "kenning" a gift from his Scottish mother. The woman of his dreams haunts him and be believes that woman to be Tamlyn Ogilvie, who is engaged to marry Damian's cousin, Julian. Heartbroken, Damian drowns his sorrows in mead. Three teenage triplets promise him his heart's desire. They kidnap him and take him to Lyonglen.

Aithinne Ogilvie is the Lady of Lyonglen and she desperately desires to have a child. She believes the child will allow her to keep the glen, but when she sees Damian in her bed, she has doubts. Through her use of the kenning, she discoverers his heart favors Tamyln. Interestingly enough, while cousins, Aithinne and Tamlyn favor each other. Chained to her bed, Damian makes love to Aithinne. However, she's anguished by her deceit and sends Damian away after two nights with a tansy that's suppose to make him forget.

Three weeks later Damian arrives at Lyonglen to claim his inheritance and meets Aithinne again. With no drugs clouding his mind he realizes she's the woman of his dreams, but can Damian and Aithinne find love outside of her bed?

Having read "One Snowy Knight" I wanted to read more by McGillivray. This book did not disappoint. I did not want to put it down.

McGillivray's writing is crisp and sharp, engaging the reader on the first page. There's wonderful balance in the language, which makes vivid descriptions yet never lingers. It's easy to picture the book's setting, which made it easy for me to be drawn into the world of the characters.

Damian is honest and noble with a true sense of responsibility and passion, which give him depth. His rearing of Moffet, his bastard son, is admirable. Aithinne is all witch, and while her motives are good, her actions are questionable. When Damian walks into her life, she realizes in order to keep him, she'll have to be honest.

The love scenes are sensual, invoking true passion and a kenning bond between Aithinne and Damian.

"In Her Bed" is a deliciously guilty pleasure full of action, adventure, and romance.
The plot, at least in the beginning, seems to borrow quite a lot from an old favorite, Johanna Lindsey's Prisoner of My Desire. Furthermore, even showing it's age, PoMD is definitely the better read. I also agree with other reviewers who felt that Damian, the main male character (I can't call him the hero), treats Aithinne poorly and the story never convinces me that, in the end, he does love her and not her cousin.
her stories are very interesting.
