The writing was fairly decent and thought provoking about what the future would be like. I found a bunch of errors though. EvThe story line was interesting and thought provoking, making you wonder about what the future will really be like. I'm a 63 yr old grandma and I know I'll never see anything like this, it still makes you wonder. I did find a bunch of common errors but one really big one that needs to be corrected. Carter and Gray are on their way to get Angie, they get in Carter's car then the next paragraph Carter is sitting down on the torn up couch. Then they arrive at the water front and Carter is shutting the car off a couple of paragraphs later. Change the couch part and it will be much better. Otherwise this was a fascinating read with good character.

Not a bad book, I like the take on a future society and its problems although I did think that it was a little slow to develop some of the plot.
Review of Bone Wires

At once science fiction and mystery, near-futuristic and Dystopian, cynicism and love story, ambition and romance, "Bone Wires" electrifies the reader and will leave its presence lingering long in the mind after the final page is turned. Gory, graphic, violent; emotional, romantic, startling; "Bone Wires" is riveting, engrossing, and entrancing.
In America's Tricentennial Year, Corporations are rulers, and all outside the Corporate Center of any metropolitan area is "Verge," where crime and anarchy are the norm. Yes, even law enforcement is a corporate arm. Pacification is the department of street patrol. Dan Gray is a Tier II detective in Homicide Solutions, a thoroughly ambitious individual bucking to reach the level of his mentor, former Seattle P.D. detective and now Tier IV, Brutus Carter. Gray knows just one special case will be all he needs to move up, and he finds it when one of his corporation's executive employees is found dead in White Center, the division between the corporate core city and the Verge. The murder is beyond brutal, and it proves to be only one of a series. What Gray uncovers will curl reader's hair and shock and terrify. But the denouements do not stop there-and readers will be totally engrossed right through to the end.
I reviewed an e-book copy for Full Moon Bites Blog Tours and the author in return for my fair and impartial review.
This was slow to get into and a little too dark and depressing for my tastes but though I did come close to stopping, I'm glad I finished it. It took a long time to care about the main character because he wasn't very likable till near the end. I never really build up any interest in the other characters but the ending was a good one. I also thought the secret drug was an interesting take on controlling people.
If you don't mind dark and violent mysteries then you may want to try this.
I was very intrigued by the concept of the book when I initially downloaded it. It's rare that a book I pick up on a lark has the ability to hold my attention all the way through, but this one did. I found the writing to have a unique voice, and the setting was pretty awesome. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and would absolutely recommend it. The author made the futuristic world absolutely believable, interesting, and thought-provoking. Technologies were cool but still conceivable, and the descriptions of the world made it really easy to slip into it and see what the main character saw, and what the world must look like. Introducing clothing styles, music videos, and the seedy underworld really added depth to the world and fleshed it out. The characters were awesome, and I loved the descriptions of them, especially James Black-Eyes, who was one of my favorite bad guys. (I would have like to see him as a bigger player than he was, because for someone so terrifying, a lot of his work was 'behind the scenes' so to speak, and I think that he should have had more 'in your face' terror time.)
That said, I did feel that certain areas were sluggish and the pace kind of eeked down. Not to the point where I didn't want to read, but certainly to the point that I became aware that I was pushing through. The plot became a bit muddled toward the end--not that it didn't tie up cleanly, but I felt that it was almost too convenient... and the reasoning behind it was marginally vague.
I liked the protagonist Daniel Gray, because I felt that he was quite human in his mannerisms and thoughts. His desire to get promoted and do well in his work shines through at first, and it was a good way to juxtapose his thought process by the end of the book. He wanted a big case, but he didn't realize what that really meant. It was interesting to see him grow and change from the beginning to the end.
Other characters, however, I found slightly predictable. Carter's character felt a bit flat to me, and seemed like your typical TV drama old-school cop; something I felt could have changed in a futuristic setting. When Daniel finds out certain information about his character, I don't feel like it was the massive twist I think the author was going for. It felt... contrived, which is something I can say I didn't honestly feel about anything in the rest of the book. Bud Moody felt a bit like the Vice characters in L.A. Noire, as if that was who he was modeled on. Of the cops, I felt that the rest of them were complex, independent, thinking individuals. Those two characters, however, fell short for me. I felt that the end (as I said before) was just a bit convoluted. I didn't care for the explanation of the main antagonist's hand in all of it, and it was just kind of a 'blanket' that covered all of the bases but didn't *quite* do it for me... Which was disappointing because I felt it could have been much stronger. (I don't mean to be vague, but I don't want to give away spoilers because honestly, it's an enjoyable read.) There were also parts that the author really committed to the gore of the crime scenes, and he had a really great way of describing some of the darker characters, in which you could appreciate their darkness and animalistic natures.
Overall, enjoyable, dark, and quite interesting. Would definitely recommend.
In the future, will our security be contracted out to private companies. Will our police be contracted out to the lowest bidder with a profit being the only priority? It's something to think about and Shean let's us see what that might look like in Seattle in the future. A detective is faced with some nightmare murders to solve. People seem to voluntarily pose and allow a murderer to cut their back's open and remove their spine. No fighting back. As he navigates through office politics, angling for a promotion with it's perks, and falling in love with a stripper, he tries to follow the twists in this murder.
There were a good many editorial mistakes and they slow you down to figure it out. There was a little confusion. But I couldn't put it down and the twists were good. And I enjoyed seeing his view of the future.
