I bought this book on a whim one day because I was getting more and more anxious about my recent lack of creativity. I work as a graphic designer which meant being creative kept food on the table. I was so excited for this book to arrive in the mail and once it turned up I was not disappointed. I devoured the book in 2 sittings but was left looking forward to reading it again! I smiled at all her ideas and I can't wait to give them ago. I noticed I had a reknewed enthusiasm for work too after the first night reading - she has helped me realise creativity is fun...not just a way to earn money! Highly recommend this book to anyone looking to add a little more fun and confidence back into their lives.
I like the size of this book, its small enough to throw in my bag and take with me to the park and write in. but i am not too enthused with the layout or design as its a little boring on the design side. and the art isn't all that great. but it does have some fun projects in it. Its not so much a book about how to create or do art projects but more about different things you can do around your house to make it more creative, or things to do with friends to be creative together. Its just so-so as far as creative books go.
I love Keri Smith's books! I bought "Wreck This Journal" first at SFMOMA and fell in LOVE!!! This book rocks...the projects are fun and not time consuming. I do things like this with my husband or when friends come over. It feels wonderful to spend time and have a product or experience rather than an empty tub of popcorn or wine bottle. Try it!
I purchased this book as a gift for a male colleague as we are both art teachers. After receiving the book, I flipped through it to find some clever ideas. However, it should be noted that this book was created for a female target audience. For example, the book contains a template for 'turning yourself into a superhero' but the only template available is that of a woman. Other than that, I think it's a good book.
Fun book with "do-able" ideas for allowing myself authentic expression as I tend to focus more time and energy on what I have to do and not enough time on what I want to do.
I read the reviews of this book before I bought it. It just didn't do it for me. It does have some ideas I haven't seen before and I did make some paper beads after reading it, which was something I hadn't done for a while. But nothing extraordinary.
This is book is amazing, I own other inspirational books, but this ones is by far the most compelling.
It has many activities for you to rediscovery your creativity and the playful side of it, which is a great approach to the subject.
I also bought Keri's Wreck this Journal, so this new year I am going to have lots of fun with Keri's books.
